WHAT IS CHARLOTTE AREA AIR AWARENESS?
Across the state of North Carolina, the Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality operates local Air Awareness programs. The Charlotte Area Air Awareness program serves an eight-county region and provides outreach and education around air pollution, health impacts and voluntary pollution reduction strategies. The Charlotte Area Air Awareness program partners with local businesses, nonprofit organizations, schools and government agencies to accomplish its goals.
HOW DOES THE AIR AWARENESS PROGRAM HELP IMPROVE CHARLOTTE AREA AIR QUALITY?
Charlotte Area Air Awareness works to promote knowledge of air quality communications. We also help individuals find methods to make small changes to help improve air quality, improving the health of their own communities.
The Air Quality forecast is a tool that communicates current air quality (AQ) and models weather/emission patterns to predict AQ. Based on the forecast, you can take action to limit your make informed choices to limit emissions.
Our programs promote voluntary actions to reduce emissions. This includes worksite, and community events, clean commute challenges, and partnership with local orgs through the Charlotte Area Air Awareness Business Coalition.
